Winter Programs

Happenin' Habitats

Grade Levels: 2-5

Months: December, January, February 

Time: 2 hours

Description:
Students will discover through hands-on learning activities how ecosystems encompass a community of interdependent living and non-living things. Woodland, rainforest, desert, grasslands, and pond ecosystems will be explored using live animals. Concepts to be covered include: predators, prey, producers, consumers, decomposers, ecosystems, habitats, niches, and interdependency.

Cost: $9.00 per student

           $11.00 including live animal presentation

Simple Machines

Grade Levels: 1-4

Months: December, January, February   

Time: 2 hours

Description:
Students will conduct investigations of simple and compound machines through a series of hands-on activities and experiments. A scavenger hunt that requires map reading skills will lead students to simple machines around the farm.

We recommend this trip as a conclusion to the simple machines unit of study.

Cost: $9.00 per student

Animals in Winter

Grade Levels: K-4

Months: December, January, February       

Time: 1 1/2 - 2 hours

Description:
Students will explore the different ways through which animals survive the winter; in particular, this field trip covers hibernation, migration, adaptation, camouflage, and mimicry. Part of the trip will be also be held outside, so dress warm!

Cost: $9.00 per student

           $11.00 including live animal presentation

Animals In Winter Materials


Food Chains and Food Webs

Grade Levels:  2-5

Months: December, January, February      

Time:  2 hours

Description:
Students will learn how energy flows through food chain and food webs. Specifically, the roles of producers, consumers, decomposers, herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, predators, prey, and scavengers of various ecosystems will be covered. Students will further investigate food chains and food webs by dissecting owl pellets.

Cost: $10.00 per student

           $12.00 including live animal presentation

Note: If owl pellet dissection is not preferred, an alternative activity can be provided for a fee of $9.00 per student.

Amazing Evergreens

Grade Levels: 1-4 

Months: December, January, February

Time: 1 1/2 - 2 hours

Description:
Students will conduct investigations of various conifer and broad leaf evergreens using real-life plant samples. This information will help students to identify the different types of evergreens during a scavenger hunt around the farm.  

Cost: $8.00 per student
